Wall insulation types: batts, blown fibres, boards and spray foam

Use these questions to compare materials and the proposed assembly.

• Establish the wall construction and assess suspect materials before opening it.
• Compare exact products and intended applications, not just material families.
• Request a wall section showing insulation, air control, vapour control and drainage.
• Ask how gaps, obstructions and concealed coverage will be checked.
• For spray foam, agree on occupant protection, re-entry and fire covering.
• Keep pre-cover photographs, installation records and product data.
